Kita dapat mencegah user untuk mengedit cell atau range dengan cara memproteksi cell atau range tersebut. Langkah-langkah untuk mem-peroteksi Cell atau Range adalah sebagai berikut:

Misalkan kita akan mem-proteksi semua cell kecuali range B1 sampai B10

1. Blok Range B1 sampai B10
2. Pilih menu Format lalu pilih Cell, akan muncul dialog box Format Cell
   
3. Klik tab protection, lalu hilangkan tanda chek pada checkbox Locked, lalu klik tombol OK
4. Pilih menu Tools lalu pilih Protection, lalu pilih Protect Sheets, akan muncul dialog box Protect sheet
   
5. Isi password to unprotect sheet untuk mencegah user dapat melakukan unprotect.
6. Pada box dibagian Allow all user of this worksheet to: biarkan default seting yang sudah ada. Klik tombol OK, akan muncul dialog box Conform Password. Isikan lagi password yang tadi dan klik tombol OK.
